Last night, the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired on ABC.  The Emmys honor the best U.S. prime time television programs from that year.  Famous actors and celebrities braced themselves as they waited to hear the results of various awards given throughout the night.  From the top drama television series to the best actors and actresses in a series, there were many prestigious awards to go around.

About the Show

Key & Peele is a sketch comedy television series created by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.  The two friends started their careers working on MADtv in the early 2000’s.  They originally planned to audition separately, but when the casting directors saw them perform together and noticed their chemistry, they auditioned as a duo and earned the part.  After years working at MADtv, they eventually branched out and created their own series.  Key & Peele debuted on Comedy Central and took off as one of the most popular sketch shows at the time. Their impressive acting, extraordinary writing, and satirical take on our modern world blew viewers away for 5 seasons and 53 episodes.  The duo recently announced that their show would not come back for a sixth season, but they continue to work on big movies and other projects.

Key’s Background

Keegan-Michael Key grew up in Southfield, Michigan.  He attended the small Catholic High School, Royal Oak Shrine, and attended the University of Detroit Mercy.  Key had a passion for acting and was never afraid to go outside of the box to achieve his goals.  Key has been so successful on Comedy Central that he was introduced by President Barack Obama at the 2015 White House Correspondents’ Dinner where he performed a variation of a sketch originally done for Key & Peele.  While all these successes might seem like the tip of the iceberg, it wasn’t until yesterday where Key won his first Emmy.  Key & Peele won the Emmy for an Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

While receiving his award, Key made a point to thank all the people that helped him along the way.  Key said, “Love you, Detroit”, as he walked away from the microphone.  Keegan-Michael Key is a prime example of how actors and actresses in any city can make it to the very top.
