In 2001, Debbie Allen and Norman Nixon founded The Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) to fill a void for the young people of the Greater Los Angeles Area who had an interest in learning the language of Dance. Ms. Allen sent her own daughter away to train at the Kirov Ballet at the ripe age of 13 because there was no “Academy” that had the kind of training she needed. When DADA opened its doors, hundreds of young people and their parents lined up around the corner to enroll. It took DADA 8 months to get its non-profit status, and so, Debbie Allen and Norman Nixon footed the entire deficit bill for that first year.
This was the beginning. In 10 years, DADA has become world renowned for its Faculty, for its commitment to furthering the Art of Dance, and for the incredible young artists who have emerged. If you look at the DADA Alumni, you will find them on Broadway, Film and Television – Choreographing, Dancing, Creating. You will also see young people who, through the character education of Dance, are excelling in science, technology, and most importantly, in life.
Now DADA is looking for young and talented dancers to join Debbie in Los Angeles for their summer intensive program:
June 28 – July 26, 2015
Tuition: $1550 (includes a daily catered nutritious lunch)
Housing: $2750 (includes daily transportation to and from the Academy, chaperones, breakfast & dinner at the dorm, and lunch at the Academy.
Dancers from across the United States and around the world flock to DADA during the month of July to be trained, inspired and transformed by Ms. Allen and her world-reknowned faculty. Students 8 to 25 years of age work to improve their technical skills and broaden their dance vocabulary over the course of the four week program.
This comprehensive intensive six days a week from 9 am to 4 pm in Ballet, Character, Horton, Graham, Dunham, Jazz, Tap, Flamenco, Hip Hop and Musical Theater, with Pointe classes and Pas de Deux offered to the more advanced students. Additionally, students can expect an array of surprise guest teachers and artists, lectures and workshops once a week.
The Intensive culminates with a recital that showcases the work and progress of our DADA summer students.
Summer Intensive 2015 Concert Performance – July 26,2015 @ 1pm at the Luckman Theater on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles. Tickets are $35.

Video Submissions
Dancers should submit a video along with the $25 evaluation fee and a cover letter with the following: name, city of origin, age, details of their dance training, length and goals. Please make note of experience on pointe.
The video should be a maximum of three minutes, and should demonstrate the following: two Demi Pliés and one Grand Plié in second position, two Demi Pliés and one Grand Plié in fifth position, Développé – Front, Side and Back and one Grand Battement – Front, Side and Back. Please include any specialty skills or other dance disciplines in the video.
Deadline for video submissions is May 1st.
