Casting directors are now casting actors, models, and talent to work on scenes filming between April through June 2018. Producers are specifically looking for authentic musicians with strong individual identity, ability to communicate beyond the fourth wall in a very large house, and be free and creative during the rehearsal process. All ethnicities welcome, artists of color strongly encouraged.
According to Variety, Jesus Christ Superstar is the next live musical to head to NBC. This edition follows in the footsteps of NBC’s successful run of live musical events, including Sound of Music Live, Peter Pan Live, The Wiz Live and Hairspray Live. Jesus Christ Superstar Live is based on the 1971 Broadway rock opera. The NBC version will be executive produced by original creators Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, who will also provide music and lyrics for NBC’s show.
The actual plot is based on the final week of Jesus’ life, and features other historical figures including Judas Iscariot, Mary Magdalene, Pontius Pilate, Caiaphas, Annas, Peter, Simon Zealotes, and King Herod. Historical drama has been very popular with Hamilton winning multiple Tony Awards just a few years ago. Jesus Christ Superstar first opened at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on Broadway in 1971 and starred Jeff Fenholt as Jesus and Ben Vereen as Judas, and was nominated for five Tony Awards that year.
