When it comes to being a young actor there are few better places to start your acting career than by auditioning for Disney. The Disney brand has led to numerous acting opportunities and other career choices to those who have been lucky enough to be cast in one of their movies or television shows. So today we’re going to give you some tips on how to prepare for Disney auditions, along with tips that you can take to use for other acting auditions.
What to Do For a Disney Audition
Step 1: Be Yourself
No matter what character you’re auditioning for, it’s your unique personality and charisma that will set you apart from the crowd. You will have to step outside of your comfort some and become the character, but never lose sight of your own personality.
Step 2: Prepare headshot and resume
When attending an audition for Disney or any other network you must have a headshot that looks like you and a well-organized resume listing your acting experience.
Tip:
Professional headshots can cost a lot of money, but if you search online or contact the photography department at a local college you’ll probably be able to find someone who will shoot you for a very low fee.
Step 3: Choose monologue
This step can be closely tied to Step 1, in that you must be yourself. If you are expected to do a monologue, choose one that suits your strengths and that fits the role. By stepping too far outside of yourself you run the risk of not seeming genuine.
Tip
It’s a good idea to have a number of monologues ready to go at any given time so that you won’t have to do much work to get the appropriate one performance-ready.
Step 4: Memorize sides
If you are expected to read sides that have been sent to you before the acting audition, prepare for them as you would for any scene. Although it’s normal to hold the sides during an acting audition with Disney casting directors, it’s best to have them memorized so you’re not stumbling over the lines.
Tip
If it’s going to be a cold reading—meaning you won’t see the sides until you arrive at the audition—read through the sides at least two times to get a sense of who your character is and what’s going on in the scene.
Step 5: Rehearse
Rehearse the monologue or sides until you’re comfortable. And get feedback from a trusted friend.
Tip
If you’ll be auditioning for a play that’s been published, get it and read it through at least once.
Step 6: Dress appropriately
Dress appropriately. You’re more believable reading Chekhov in a long-sleeved blouse than in a tube top, but a full-on Halloween costume will look, well, like a Halloween costume.
Step 7: Prep at home
Do some vocal exercises, some stretching, and some breathing exercises before you head off to the audition.
Step 8: Be early
Make a schedule that will get you to the audition at least 20 minutes early. Allow time for traffic or any snafus you might run into.
Step 9: Turn off cell phone
Turn off your cell phone. It will only distract you and others.
Step 10: Make a good entrance
Realize that you start auditioning the minute you walk in the door. Sign in, fill out any paperwork, and avoid distractions.
How you prepare for a Disney audition or any other type of acting audition has an effect on you will perform in front of the casting directors, and ultimately whether you get the part or not. For example, James Dean and Paul Newman, both relatively unknown actors, did a screen test together to audition for East of Eden, but Dean won the part. Why? Because Dean was more prepared and was able to execute his audition much better that Newman.

Hello, i’ll not describe me as i am, because the way i see myself isn’t the way the others see me! So, i’m here because i have a dream, more like a lot of big dreams, like everybody, but i was born in a small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. I know how hard it is to fight for your dreams, when you wasn’t born in a big famous city like New York, Los Angeles or even London!But the baddest thing about this, is the fact that i’ll have to move to London or maybe to Los Angeles, to catch my dream, even without family, near to me, just one simple girl, alone, in one big city, without knowing each other. That’s really scary, but it doesn’t make that girl giving up on her dreams! Well, that girl is me! Since my childhood, which it wasn’t that easy, i was wondering that my life would be on stage, performing for a thousand people. As i said in the beginning, i have really BIG dreams! I started in a “Girl Band”, where my life changed a lot. After that i followed my own way, as a solo singer, which it was my real point. Now i’m living my normal life, as a teenager, because i only have 16 years old, but i continue with my dream by my side! I have been in some performances, i have been in TV, on Radio, and now on youtube, as i started doing covers with a friend. And my first video had +30.000 views. I am so proud of myself, and i know that i can do better than that. Well i probably know that nobody is going to read this, but i don’t mind. I just wanted someone to hear me and to say that i can really be a big success in the music industry, or even as an actress (that’s like my second dream), and i’m not saying this because of the fame, i’m saying this because this is my life, music means everything in my life. I’m 15 years old and in the 9th grade. Not many teens at my school take Disney Channel seriously. Some people know I want to audition and call it “dumb” or “childish” but I honestly think it isn’t. Step 1: Be Yourself
No matter what character you’re auditioning for, it’s your unique personality and charisma that will set you apart from the crowd. You will have to step outside of your comfort some and become the character, but never lose sight of your own personality.
Step 2: Prepare headshot and resume
When attending an audition for Disney or any other network you must have a headshot that looks like you and a well-organized resume listing your acting experience.
Tip:
Professional headshots can cost a lot of money, but if you search online or contact the photography department at a local college you’ll probably be able to find someone who will shoot you for a very low fee.
Step 3: Choose monologue
This step can be closely tied to Step 1, in that you must be yourself. If you are expected to do a monologue, choose one that suits your strengths and that fits the role. By stepping too far outside of yourself you run the risk of not seeming genuine.
Tip
It’s a good idea to have a number of monologues ready to go at any given time so that you won’t have to do much work to get the appropriate one performance-ready.
Step 4: Memorize sides
If you are expected to read sides that have been sent to you before the acting audition, prepare for them as you would for any scene. Although it’s normal to hold the sides during an acting audition with Disney casting directors, it’s best to have them memorized so you’re not stumbling over the lines.
Tip
If it’s going to be a cold reading—meaning you won’t see the sides until you arrive at the audition—read through the sides at least two times to get a sense of who your character is and what’s going on in the scene.
Step 5: Rehearse
Rehearse the monologue or sides until you’re comfortable. And get feedback from a trusted friend.
Tip
If you’ll be auditioning for a play that’s been published, get it and read it through at least once.
Step 6: Dress appropriately
Dress appropriately. You’re more believable reading Chekhov in a long-sleeved blouse than in a tube top, but a full-on Halloween costume will look, well, like a Halloween costume.
Step 7: Prep at home
Do some vocal exercises, some stretching, and some breathing exercises before you head off to the audition.
Step 8: Be early
Make a schedule that will get you to the audition at least 20 minutes early. Allow time for traffic or any snafus you might run into.
Step 9: Turn off cell phone
Turn off your cell phone. It will only distract you and others.
Step 10: Make a good entrance
Realize that you start auditioning the minute you walk in the door. Sign in, fill out any paperwork, and avoid distractions.
How you prepare for a Disney audition or any other type of acting audition has an effect on you will perform in front of the casting directors, and ultimately whether you get the part or not. For example, James Dean and Paul Newman, both relatively unknown actors, did a screen test together to audition for East of Eden, but Dean won the part. Why? Because Dean was more prepared and was able to execute his audition much better that Newman.

To become a professional child actor it’s important to be yourself most importantly. They would like to see you as you are and see what character you can play. Going to a lot of casting roles is never bad, as long as you feel the role is well suited for you. Bring multiple head shots and look presentable during ALL casting roles. For boys a simple dress shirt and jeans will cut it. For girls a nice clean blouse and jeans with flats is acceptable. Try to memorize your lines so you don’t stumble over words. Be the best you can be and the hardest thing about acting is dealing with the rejection. This is why its inportant to go to multiple casting roles.

I have been the lead in many plays and musicals, I have been singing, dancing, and playing many instruments for over 10 years, and I am an honor student at school. I love music, art, and fashion. I auditioned and was accepted into the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra and the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. I have performed and won competitions playing cello, violin, piano, and singing. I also won first place in art competitions and music memory competitions five years in a row. My teachers see me as an outstanding and kind student, and my peers see me as overachieving and friendly.
