Casting call for the play, ‘Once Upon a Mattress’ has been announced to be held in Port Washington and the auditions are open for entire cast. The story of the play and the subsequent breakdown of characters are given below.

Storyline

‘Once Upon a Mattress’ is the story of a medieval kingdom and the drama that ensues within its walls. The king has been muted by a spell and now the queen must take control to run the kingdom while the king wallows in his inability to speak. The queen sets out to find who muted her husband, and the drama escalates. The sons, sensing that they might soon take over the throne if their father doesn’t break out of this spell, fight for control and leadership powers. There will be plenty of drama in this Game of Thrones type production and the audience will surely be captivated by the complex story line and interesting characters. The characters are further detailed below:

Cast Specifications

Minstrel: the person who will narrate the story as the actors act. 20-35 years of age with a strong tenor in voice. This actor will also act in the musical of this story as a man who tries to woo Lady Larken into fleeing with him to another kingdom.

Lady Larken: 18-27 years of age. She is in charge of Princess Winifred as she tries to garner the attention of the prince.

Sir Harry: 25-35 years of age. He is the brave man who, in an attempt to make things better for himself and the love of his life, Lady Larken and their child, plunges into the woods to look for a girl suitable for the Prince of the kingdom.

King Sextimus: 55-65 years of age, the mute owner of the kingdom who has his voice shut due to a spell. He is a kind man with a sort of playful and joyous and flirtatious character.

Queen Aggravian: 50-65 years of age, she is the daunting and intimidating queen of the kingdom and is completely cynical to the idea of her son getting married and does everything she can to stop him.

Prince Dauntless: Male of 22-35 years of age, an innocent and average person who is sort of a toy of control for her mother, the queen. He desperately wants to get married.

Princess Winifred: Female 20-30 years of age; an outspoken and confident woman who is not too fond of the manners of the royalty. She wishes to get married but has to pass the queen’s test.

Wizard: Male 60-85 years of age, he is the one who cast the spell on queen’s orders. Directly works for the queen.

Apart from the above described main characters, there is the ensemble cast that includes king and queen’s knights and ladies-in-waiting and the Princess No. 12, the only princess who appears on front of the audience, attempting the queen’s test out of her desire to marry the prince.
